Support for #22 Cadet Corps UNDAUNTED

On September 13, we attended the renaming of a building at HMCS Tecumseh that houses the Calgary cadet training centre. Navalis is a keen supporter of the Cadet Corps. We were a significant funder of their navigation simulator project. Cadets train regularly alongside Junior Reserve Officers in this highly popular program.

The centre was unveiled as the Commodore Lorraine Orthlieb Training Centre. Commodore Othlieb was the first woman to achieve the rank of commodore. She was instrumental in the creation of the Naval Museum of Alberta (also housed in the building) and now the training centre for cadets. She was actively involved in setting the long-term vision for a facility that provides youth with an opportunity to build leadership and teamwork skills along with practical nautical skills through sailing, seamanship, and community service.

At the renaming ceremony, the group announced additional funding from Navalis – $18,000 to integrate the charts of the BC coastline to provide cadets with a realistic preview of the waters they may eventually be navigating.
